Whoa Nelly! What About Compliance?
Compliance and governance often take a back seat to security, but their importance hasn’t diminished. Years ago, I read an article, in which Lorrie Luellig, Of Counsel, Ryley Carlock & Applewhite, PC, commented, “More than 100,000 international laws and regulations are potentially relevant to Forbes Global 1000 companies. Additionally, many of these regulations are evolving and often vary or even contradict one another across borders and jurisdictions.”
This quote was before the hoopla of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and I can only imagine the even more complicated compliance requirements that exist today. Regardless of whether you have 500 or 100,000 compliance requirements, it takes effort and time to endure an audit, or several of them, and come out with flying colors.
Our partner Netwrix has embedded a subset of our conceptClassifier platform into its Netwrix Auditor data discovery and classification software. Netwrix provides proactive data breach identification, risk mitigation, and compliance. It has consistently been recognized as a leader in its field. For compliance, pre-defined, out-of-the-box rules are available for identifying data protected by GDPR, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other regulations.
There are over 80 rules, and you can customize them to find the exact data that matters to your business, or easily start from scratch and create your own pattern of detection, consisting of phrases, subjects, and concepts. The insight engine uses statistical analysis of multi-word concepts that empower you to quickly hone in on files containing very specific information, such as any personal data related to an individual to comply with the GDPR’s right to be forgotten, without downtime or creating new rules.
End users are no longer left holding the bag for accurate processing of compliance records. Easy-to-use workflow processes can be created by authorized business users – that’s how simple it is. In fact, content can be indexed just about out-of-the-box. Performing in real-time, exceptions are routed to the appropriate personnel or repository.
