Taxonomy in the Dark – Light Dawns
In our previous blog we talked about some of the organizational challenges in building a taxonomy in regards to human effort, time, and costs. Since we run into this problem quite a bit (more than you know) we began thinking about a solution that could simplify the process and reduce the time to value factor. I don’t like to use our blog as a vendor pitch, but we believe this solution will help those organizations that find taxonomy development daunting to say the least.
As a result, we have formed a partnership with WAND, Inc., who develops structured multi-lingual vocabularies. Under the agreement, Concept Searching is the first strategic partner to meet the stringent requirements of the new WAND Within™ program. The WAND Within™ partnership program is designed specifically for industry leading vendors in the taxonomy market, who can add technology value providing clients with solutions to manage unstructured content.
You may say so what? Concept Searching has many partners as does WAND. I think we have taken it one step farther. Our solution, called smartStructures are industry focused pre-configured taxonomies that leverage our conceptClassifier platform, and may include the WAND Foundation Taxonomies, published industry taxonomies, and taxonomy branches from Concept Searching. We think it is a unique offering resulting in a pre-configured, yet highly customizable solution of software and technology focused on shared requirements across an industry or business function.
I know, you are going to say your organization is unique and that just won’t work. We thought about that and you are correct, one shoe does not fit all feet. Despite providing an out-of-the-box taxonomy all categories and nodes can be changed, deleted, new ones added, all quickly and easily to address unique organizational requirements, nomenclature, and vocabulary.
