How Much Bloated Content Are You Carrying Around? Get Rid of It
A client of ours was having problems with sluggishness and poor performance on one of its servers. Time to spend more money on hardware? One of our professional services staff suggested the client clean up its content. Alas, the client didn’t know how to.
Performing a content inventory on hundreds of thousand documents would be impossible. What our colleague suggested was using our software to identify redundant, obsolete, or trivial (ROT) content and dark data, to see if that would help system performance.
This enabled our client to identify duplicates, versions, stale information, security exposures, records never declared, and more, with a solution that is fast, reliable, and easy-to-use. What was the result? The client identified 66,000 duplicates out of a total of 270,000 documents, representing a 24 percent reduction in disk space.
Another of our clients was able to reduce its server footprint from 54 to 5. But it’s not about only server footprint and performance. The amount of bloated content organizations are saving, migrating, and using for decision making poses an organizational risk. The impact on enterprise search is significant, not to mention unknown privacy and sensitive information exposures and noncompliance instances that can have costly consequences.
Are you carrying around bloated content? Don’t you think it’s time to get rid of it? You’ll be a hero when you do.
