This is the article that first introduced the idea of using Shannon Information Theory to compute the incremental value of compound terms (i.e. multi-word terms) over their lower order component parts. By supplementing the basic Probabilistic Model with this type of compound term processing we are able to automatically identify multi-word concepts in a language independent manner. This is the key to delivering High Precision and High Recall.
