Designing a tailored information architecture for SharePoint 2010 at deployment stage will save time and budget in determining a plan to configure SharePoint and continue to grow the platform to extend to the furthest reaches of your organization. This information architecture includes the use and development of enterprise taxonomies that can be leveraged as Term Sets in the Management Metadata Services.

We will discuss strategies to design a taxonomy and metadata schema that will be the basis for information architecture in SharePoint 2010. We will examine how to begin the functional planning of how users will interact with the various information elements within the SharePoint environment, and look at out of the box functionality in the SharePoint 2010 Term Store, Concept Searching’s Smart Content Framework™, and when to use a third-party tool, such as Concept Searching's conceptClassifier for SharePoint, to drive value and deliver a superior end user experience.
